My Laptop Is On It's Way HomeMarch 16th 2005 |

I added 25 more pics AND I added a new section to the website of all the videos I have taken.
There were over 100 kids that came to know Christ in Devo this week! The Devos have been essential in bringing kids to Christ, and we had so many this week! Shalom is a private Christian school, but the kids who go there aren't necessarily Christians, they are just kids looking for a quality education, and Shalom is one of the best schools in Guatemala.
Well, my laptop is on it's last leg. Yes, I am using it right now, but in 30 minutes or less, it will lock up and I will have to turn it off, let it cool down for several hours and try it again later. It really stinks, I have had this beauty since it was a baby "way back in 2000." This laptop is five years old now. That's hard to think about, it seems like just yesterday that I purchased a top-of-the-line computer with my business I used to have called Lexwave. And now... it's hard drive is failing, the battery doesn't work, and the fans are going out. Oh well, hopefully I will make enough money when I get back to buy a new computer -- really, finish the one I have been building.
Hay un grupo aqui de Georgia... Oops, I mean, there is a team here from Georgia that is helping Shalom in some construction projects. I have been hanging out with them on some days and they are all really nice. There is a guy on the team named Sam! I have gotten to know him a little and he is an awesome guy. Hey -- all Sam's are! HAHA! :p Just kidding! Anyways, today I was helping them move blocks in my "dress clothes" because I had nothing else to do. This Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, we are issuing exams (but not computer exams.) So Antonio and I are basically baby-sitters for the rest of this week.
Next week is holy week and there is no school. Tom and I might use that time to setup Internet access at Shalom. His Internet that he has here is really fast! It's the fastest I have seen in Guatemala! So I am super excited about having it at Shalom. I have setup a Linux box in the computer lab and after I got it all setup, I realized that I was the only one who would be able to administrate it. I guess I need to start training some of the students how to use Linux.
I will be home in 9 days!! I have been a little home sick, so I am really excited about coming home, especially since things at school are slowing down for the break. I can't wait to hang out with all my buddies, and go see family, and all that fun stuff. I told Frith that in order to baptize my body with fire, I need to eat at White Castle as soon as I get back, so that I can "cleans myself" of "healthy Guatemalan food" and get back on my American diet of artificiality.

Ok, I have a question for all you computer geniuses that read Sam's site. The monitor on my laptop is broken. When I turn it on, there is only a faint black outline of what should be on the screen. I can't afford to pay someone $50/hour labor on it, so any advice?

Thank you, Samuel! I'm back on line. I'm just too happy about that. Love you.

Baptized in NASTINESS. Your body is a temple, do not insert that garbage into a temple! Insert cheesestix instead!

Sam, we will baptize you with FIRE! Do you accept White Castle as your selection of the most chizzoiceness burgers known to man? Sam, I so psyched your coming home! Ah, what a wonderful time it will be. Just be aware, April 9th, we're going to Dayton, OH to Wright-Patterson AFB. I love you SammyK

Sounds like the backlight for the LCD display has gone bad. If it's not still under warranty, and if you can't get a new laptop, you should at least be able to hook up a regular monitor. Also, it's entirely possible that the brightness/contrast settings are too dark. Can you see better at certain angles? Something like that may be adjustable. Otherwise, a bad display is most likely.
