Happy Father's Day!June 20th 2005 |

Happy fathers day dad!! I know its a day late, but I didnt get a chance to get on the computer yesterday. So I guess many of you wondering why I have a picture of my parents making out on my site. Well, this is one thing that is undoubtedly due some explanation, but I will get to that in a second.
Mothers day seems a little easier to celebrate than Fathers day because its easy for guys to tell their mothers how much they love them and give them all these hugs and chocolates and flowers and all kinds of mushy stuff to let them know how much we love and appreciate them. For some reason, when it comes to guys telling other guys that they love them, there is a slight discomfort, uneasiness and hope that the other guy didnt take it that way if you know what I mean. But I have no problems letting my dad know I love him. I love you dad!! Why? I dont feel any discomfort in telling him because of his awesome example he has set as I grew up with my older brother and younger sister.
The first extraordinary example he set that I would like to mention is his spiritual leadership. His sheer biblical knowledge still makes me wonder if I will ever be able to pull scripture off the top of my head or summarize books of the bible like he does. This is something that I long to do as well as he does. He has done an excellent job of setting the biblical standard bar so very high in our household and he did it without beating scripture into our heads, but simply leading by example, which has undoubtedly become the most powerful persuasion for me.
I couldnt have had a better example of how to treat my future wife than what my dad has displayed. I didnt realize it growing up, but my dad treats my mom (and my sister) like the princesses that they are. He led by example how to treat women with love and respect. I remember being little and dad coming home with two roses, one for my mom and the other for my sister and I would think, Wheres my rose? But my dad has done far more than simply giving a rose or taking my mom out for a candlelight dinner, but its the actions of love he does for her. Things like sacrificing his own desires to plop down on the couch and relax after a hard days work but instead, doing the dishes for my mom. Or spending the money to remodel rooms in the house for my mom when for us guys, a hole to use the bathroom and a freezer full of frozen pizza will do. That is why I put a make-out picture on my website, it is a picture that encompasses the love my dad has for my mom.
I have always felt loved by my dad, and I have always felt that he has supported me and stood up for me even when I didnt deserve it. Had it not been for my dad, I wouldnt be here in Guatemala right now serving the Lord at Shalom School. When I have kids one day, I want to raise them almost exactly like my dad raised us. I want to let my little daughter sit in my lap and smother her with kisses until she cant take it anymore from the time shes too small to walk until she is about to go off to college, just like he did. I want to put my kids above my job so that I can go outside in the backyard and tackle my boys and try and keep both of them on the ground as I tear off grass and shove it in their faces and say, EAT GRASS! just like he did. I want to be able to quote scripture off the top of my head and correct my children without having to go look it up in the Bible. I want to teach my kids by example in everything I do, just like he did and continues to do.
I know I have been so very blessed to have a dad like I have had. I dont know what my life would be like today had my dad not been such a strong spiritual leader and poster-child example of how he treats my mom. I attribute much of what I am today because of my dads example and for that, I am forever grateful. Thank you dad for being the best example a kid could ever have!
I love you dad!!

Chuck, strange is he may be, is a good man whose faithfulness to Christ becomes more clear as time goes by. I appreciate his example.
