The 2006 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event

May 2nd 2006

(Part 2) Since I work at eLink Design and we make websites for businesses all over the country, I got the chance to work on the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event website. Since I am one of the designers / programmers of the site, I got six free tickets to go to the event this past weekend. So, since MAP was in town with Katy so I invited them and D-well to come along. I reminded all of them that, “This is the big Three-Day Event! So dress up in your best!” I had never been before so I was excited to finally go to such a big deal that everyone talked about this time of year.

We all got dressed up in our suits and dresses and piled into D-well's car to go to the RK3DE. When we pull into the parking lot with our “special 'P' lot pass,” we notice scores of people entering and leaving the big Three-Day Event through the main entrance – in their jeans. Yes, the RK3DE is not anything like Keeneland – it's more of a circus or carnival – without the clowns or roller coasters.

So we all step out of the car in our formal wear and the security guy at the parking lot standing about thirty feet away just stared at us like a kid trying to figure out a math problem. As we get closer to him to go to the main entrance, he calls us out with a mocking smile on his face telling us that we're going to get our “nice dress shoes” all muddy. We just smile and thank him for the “caution.”

When we entered the event, everyone's eyes were affiliated to our little formal group. The whole time we are walking, people just stared and stared at us. It got so ridiculous that I started taking pictures of people who were staring at us. Here is the proof.

Stay tuned for part 3 of this 3 part entry.

A few thoughts...

1) You might be just a little bit paranoid.

2) Yes, it's VERY funny!

3) Those pictures have some sort of a Matrix feel to it. Mmm...

Loved the people ballons.

You need to write books and become rich and famous. You could even translate them for the rest of the non-English speaking world, have some photo pages and have your own book website. Yes, I think the world needs Sam Powers to make their day brighter.
