West Coast Swing Music for Younger DancersMarch 23rd 2008 |

It's frustrating to go to a dance party where all the West Coast Swing dances are danced to old-school music. Last night I went to a ballroom dance here in Lexington and was happy to see West Coast Swing on the playlist, but unfortunately, most of them all of them were these old songs that I call "slow East Coast Swing" songs. So I compiled a list of some of my favorite WCS songs and made an iMix on iTunes. If you want to dance West Coast Swing amidst a younger generation, these songs are a must.

By the by, regarding Peyton's query for current ECS tunes, I too have had a heck of time finding any. Candyman (Aquillera) is perhaps the only thing going at the moment in the popular set - we ECS to it here but I think that it's a jive, in fact.
On the other end of the spectrum there is the Idlewild soundtrack for blues and smooth Lindy.
But the most current thing I can think of is Jeff Healey, whose last CD "Mess of Blues" was released posthumously. Canada lost a great blues man. RIP.

I'm DJ TBA from Toronto, Canada - my playlist is very wide. Everything from "the old stuff" (everything of my era, i.e. 70s, 80s) to the new and upcoming.
But I have been working on finding material that is WCS but not North American. Toronto being as multicultural as it is, it struck me that all the songs don't have to be in English. So far I have Turkish R&B and Anime soundtrack on the roster. Unfortunately, this stuff is not available on iTunes yet.
You can find some of my selections on iMix under "DJ TBA".
