Indy Swing Classic - 2008April 24th 2008 |

I went to the Indy Swing Classic in Indianapolis, IN this past weekend. It was a very small dance comp, but still a lot of fun. I did my normal social-dance-until-4-or-5-AM thing. Although, I didn't dance quite as much as I did at Mad Jam - my feet were still fully functional after this comp whereas Mad Jam sent me off limping and unable to drive my truck (a stick) by depressing the clutch with the ball of my foot.
I don't have any cool videos to show you, but I did manage to win the Jack & Jill Pro-Am which had a pot of all the entry money. So I won like $48 - it was nice. The funny thing is since it's a Jack & Jill, your partner is supposed to be chosen at random - but I somehow got my instructor Tracey. And the funnier thing about that is that she was drunk. Not just tipsy, apparently, but plastered. I had seen her drinking some wine earlier, and she wasn't drinking much. I guess since she's so tiny, it doesn't take much to get her totally wasted. And the even still funnier thing about that is that I had no idea she was drunk until after the dance. Perhaps the funnierest thing about the whole situation was that we won first place.
Since I won first place in the novice division Pro-Am at Mad Jam (a big comp), I wasn't allowed to enter the novice division at this small comp, so I entered into the intermediate Pro-Am. Which was fine. Except for the fact that I was the only person competing within that division. So I was guaranteed first place (and last place if you want to look at it that way). So as I was behind the curtain waiting to be called. I am talking with Tracey about how there was no competition - and what's the point? Since this was such a small comp, I was like, "That it, I'm going to do crazy stuff that people don't normally do in a real competition."
So I walk out there with Tracey - ready to compete with myself. We are the only ones on the dance floor. I start the dance off in closed position with a little booty-shake. Tracey follows suit and ups the ante with some "pelvic thrusts" - the last one plowing right into me as I do a throw-out. Quite humorous. Then I do some other whacky things. And then I go to lead finger-turns and had my leg sticking out there so Tracey bumped into my knee and we botched the turns. Me and Tracey are just laughing and having a good time with it. The whole time this is going on, my other instructor, Cody is just laying his head down on the table in shame occasionally looking up just to shake is head and plop is head back on to the table.

OK, so I took privates with Cody for about 2 years or so, so I guess I know him pretty well. As I'm reading through this, I'm thinking to myself, "Cody must have been freaking out when you were goofing around like this." And then sure enough I get to the part where you say Cody was freaking out... Actually, you wouldn't really have to know Cody very well at all to know that he would be freaking out...But look at it this way... Dancing is his profession, so he is professional about it at all times.
