Computer Shooting in London

Oh my gosh – this was by far the best shooing trip I have ever been on. We had about 14 people come shooing and then 11 go mudding afterwards. It was a BLAST! The weather was better than I would have ever wanted it to be. I even got a sun-burn on my face! I have posted the pictures. Frith has got some more good ones.

We started off the day meeting up at my house and packed into the fewest cars possible. Danwray brought his big new truck, William brought his Jeep and Toddy brought his jeep. MAP was bringing down some people from Georgetown and was going to meet us in London. When we got to Memaw's house, we ate some doughnuts and took orders for ammo. Last time we all went to Wal-mart and ordered a box or two apiece, but it took forever. So this time I was just going to take orders from everyone and go out and buy it with Danwray.

When Danwray and I got to Wal-mart, we saw MAP pull in with "the Georgetown Crew." They came and helped us with getting the ammo. The guy who was working the "sports/rec section" of Wal-mart was the same guy who checked us out the last time. Last time, we spent about 45 minutes with that poor guy trying to figure out who was buying what and then we had all these problems with credit cards not working properly and everything. Well, as soon as I turned the corner, I saw the same guy from last time and I saw his facial expression change. A nervous smile creped up on his face and he gently shook his head. He remembered me. I smiled at him and said, "Don't worry, it won't be as bad as last time.. but we need more ammo this time." I could tell that he wasn't super happy to check us out again.

After getting all the ammo we needed on the check-out counter, the total came to $108.78! Since everyone pitched-in $15 or so, I had wads of ones, fives and tens I had to count out. After miss counting them about 100 times and trying to pay the difference, I thought I had finally got it. The problem was that I knew going into this thing that I would have to "take-a-hit" when buying this ammo, but the "hit" was like $60! So looking at the pile of cash, I started all over again. The poor guy checking us out just let out a frustrated laugh and put his hand on my shoulder as if to say, "Get it right this time stupid!" After the re-count, the "hit" I was taking wasn't even close to $60. For that I was happy. :)

So off we were, to Papaw Jack's land. We set up the computers and our old wooden attic stars as targets. I gave my whole "gun safety schpiel" and I was barely finished when dad come over and got a gun all loaded up and tried to get people shooting. He's like a kid on too much sugar some times. :) We started with the revolvers and moved up to the semi-autos; each one putting nice-sized holes into the computers. Jack brought a .45 which seemed to be a favorite with most people. After many hours of blowing-away silicon, we headed up to the top part of the land to shoot skeet.

Shooting skeet is where you shoot clay-pigeons with shotguns. Jack brought a nice 12 gauge shotgun. Now, for shooting skeet, you need to use shotgun shells that have buckshot in them. Buckshot is basically a bunch of little bee-bee's that spread-out once they leave the barrel. When you shoot a shot-gun, there is some pretty good recoil on it, so it's not for the faint-of-heart. Well, I wanted to do a little "experiment." First, I wanted to see how a computer would react shooting it with a slug. A slug is the same as a normal shotgun shell, but instead of a ton of little bee-bee's, it has a big piece of solid lead. And instead of the normal amount of gunpowder, it has a lot more. Dan, Gabe and I all wanted to shoot slugs and so we all purchased 5 slugs apiece to shoot. So, I set the computer about 10 feet in front of me and loaded a slug into the gun. I lined-up the computer into the sights and pulled the trigger. A huge shot of pain shot through my shoulder. If you think shooting with buckshot has recoil, try shooting with a slug! The gun knocked me back quite a bit and I am a big guy! But what it did to the computer was amazing! The entry hole was big but the exit hole was huge! Dan, Gabe and I shot it some more with more slugs and each time, the recoil made us say, "Wow! That hurts!" Then it was time for experiment number two. I had this old "excel book" that I used as the subject. The "Mythbusters" question was, "Will a slug be powerful enough to pass through a book as thick as this?" The answer is yes.

After shooting a little bit more, we realized that we had been outside for like 5 hours straight and we were hungry. We called up Memaw and the last batch of fried-chicken was being cooked. We packed up all the stuff to head out when I noticed one of my clips with a full round of ammo in it was missing. After searching the ground a little, I opened the truck door and saw it laying there on the seat. We threw all the shot-up computer junk into the back of Danwray's truck and started to head up when I said to Dan, "You know, I have got two full clips of ammo and I don't want to have to take these bullets out by hand." I looked in the back of the pickup and saw the VCR which was only half-way shot-up and said, "Let's just unload it on that VCR." So we got out of the truck and pulled the VCR from the rest of the computer shrapnel from the back. The rest of the gang had already gone ahead of us and had our hearing protection, so it was just me, Dan, my .9mm, two full clips of ammo, and a poor VCR.

The scene unfolded a little like the "fax machine" scene in "Office Space." We tossed the VCR a few feet in front of us, and unloaded both clips on it – point-blank. Unbeknownst to us, the VCR still had a tape in it. After unloading both clips, we couldn't hear anything, but we turned the VCR over to see showers of tape-confetti fall through the ripped-open underside. It was sweet.

Then we headed to Memaw's house to eat the famous fried-chicken, potato salad, green beans, cornbread, and all kinds of stuff. She also made her famous Butterfinger cake for dessert. It was amazing. We all got stuffed to the gills. After eating we were all hanging out in the living room talking and Memaw came in with hot cornbread with butter on it. Despite everyone being full, it was a hit. :)

We had a few hours of daylight left, so we all hopped into the jeeps and truck and headed to Livingston to do some mad mudding and rock-crawling. When we got there, it was quite dark. William lead us on the trail in his phatty lifted Jeep and Danwray was in the middle with his truck since his was most likely to get stuck and Toddy, Frith, Rebecca and I all brought-up the tail. After going a little ways on the trail, we decided to remove the top since it was a clear night. After we did this, poor Rebecca and I, being in the back and furthest away from the heat source, were freezing our butts off. I would say that it was totally worth it though to look up and see the stars.

Danwray is a very skilled driver. Anyone else driving that truck would have gotten it stuck many times, but he navigated this truck through the hardcore parts with only getting stuck once. I guess you learn a few things when you drive a FedEx truck for a living.

After getting back in Lexington around 10PM, some of us headed over to William's house with D-well to watch William play Katamari Damacy and make fun of his obese cat until 2AM.

To have a great time one would need the following combination(s)
1. Three snickers bars and a loaded .38 special
2. Six doughnuts and a loaded shotgun with plenty of room to shoot anything that jumps up or flys.
3. One Red Bull and Jackers loaded .45, do you feel lucky punk?!?!?
4. One twix candy bar and water bottles as targets near someone's proerty to shoot with a .22
5. Just go with Sam shooting and fun is had for all!!!!!!!!!! Especially old Dads!!!!!!!

If only gas didn't cost so much to take 4x4s to cool places, i'd be up for it next weekend. But soon we will do it again.

you forgot to mention that some of us sunburnt our faces while we were shooting the shotgun... which is odd, because there were several people that didnt seem to get any sun.
