A Baptism In Sin City

Sorry for the lack of upadteageness. I have been, dare I say it... busy. It's funny. When I got back from Guatemala, I looked down on the thought of being busy. It seems like we Americans think the act of not being busy all the time is a bad thing. I really don't like being this busy. It really distracts from so many things. But on May 5th, school as I know it for this semester will be over!!! Who hoo! Now I just have to prepare for two big papers, three presentation in three different languages, and a butt-load of finals. Oh, and a make-up quiz. Boo!

I just got back from Arizona / Las Vegas with my family. (I have added 95 pictures from the trip.) We went down to see Rio get baptized in Las Vegas and see little Dallas James Powers in Arizona. It was an awesome time! I got to see so many family members while I was down there. Memaw and Papaw went over there with us. We were originally planning on getting wheel-chairs for them to expedite things. Since mom broke her ankle, that made a total of 3 people who needed a wheel chair. Luckily, we had three people to push them, Me, Dad and MAP. It was quite funny in the airport to see the wheel-chair mafia come board the planes. It also made me realize how rude some people are. You would think that if someone is in a wheel-chair that people would yield to them. No, no my friend, they cut you off like a Mormon handing out at pamphlet. I mean, there was this one guy who was on his cell phone that cut me and Memaw off and then started walking ridiculously slow(ly)! One of my biggest pet-peeves is people who use their cell phone while driving. They don't pay attention to the number one most important task at hand. I can't wait until it's illegal here in Kentucky. Now a new pet peeve is developing - people who walk while talking on a cell phone. When will the madness stop!! (Just kidding.)

Anyways, we flew into Phoenix and stayed with Bryan and Jamie in Mesa for the first night. The next day we loaded up two cars and headed up to Las Vegas to see Rio, aunt Betty, uncle Bob and aunt Lois. We stayed at this sweet house in a rich neighborhood for free. :) I have posted some pictures of it. The next day we went down to the Vegas strip and checked-out the Venetian and Caesar's Palace. Between Me, Memaw, Jamie, MAP and Dad, we gambled all of out gambling money away – a whopping 75 cents. It was sad. We hit it big at first – we hit 75 cents after putting in only 50 cents. But after that we got greedy, the money went away faster that you can say slot machines rob you. We also found out later that you have to be 21 to gamble in Vegas which means MAP was breaking the law! There are pictures to prove it!

That night we went to Rio and Ted's church called "Central Christian Church" in Henderson which is a satellite city to Las Vegas. It's a mega church. It's huge! They even had a celebrity from the TV series "Lost" to promote their upcoming sermon series. It was craziness. The tech guys where super-creative. None of this "old-school PowerPoint announcement slides" junk. No, no, no, they had some sweet animations done with Adobe After Effects or something that just really set-off the media experience. After the service we got to see Rio get baptized and then we all laid our hands on her and prayed.

After we saw Rio get baptized in "Sin City," me, Bryan, Jamie, MAP and Dallas rode back to AZ that night. Along the way, they all gave me a really important "counseling session," (well, except for Dallas since he was asleep... and he can't talk yet.) They really helped me realize a few things that I hadn't noticed before and it's been really helpful. So to that I say, if you are going through anything, just talk with any of the aforementioned people and all the worlds problems will be solved.

And Andy, you are too funny!
